Penny Marinou was born in London. After studying socio-economics at the University of Bristol, she obtained an MSc in environmental resources from the University of Salford and a PhD in human geography from the University of Aix-en-Provence in France.
After a career in the Greek Civil Service, at the Ministry of Coordination/National Economy, she worked for the European Commission as Member of the Cabinet of the Greek Commissioner.
In 1996, she resigned from the public sector and worked for Hellas On Line, an innovative company established by five dynamic entrepreneurs including David Marinos, in order to gain experience in the private sector. In 1997, she decided to exploit her knowledge of languages and established Eurologos Athens, her first translation company, under a franchise agreement with a Belgian translation company. Five years later, she created Litterae® Translations and subsequently went into a general partnership with Sofia Vlavianou, namely P. MARINOU – S. VLAVIANOU O.E.
Penny has been actively involved in the European translation market. She has served as Vice-President and President of the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies (EUATC) and is involved in a number of European projects, such as translator certification at European level.
She has been on the Board of Directors of the BHCC since 1997 and has served as Vice-President and member.
Penny Marinou is married and has twin sons. Her hobbies and interests include sailing, swimming, trekking, skiing, yoga, travelling and reading.
