| Our purpose is to build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide. In partnership with the corporate sector, Government and NGO's our cultural relations work harnesses the power of education, arts and creativity, science, environment, social issues and English to build relationships of mutual benefit worldwide and to address global issues. We provide access to internationally recognised professional qualifications through the exams we administer on behalf of UK examining bodies. The Business English exams we administer assess the ability to communicate in English in an international business environment. Our teaching centre provides high quality English language courses for young learners, adults and corporate clients. We teach general English as well as specialised business English workshops and teacher training courses and seminars. We are incorporated in the UK by royal charter and registered as a charity. We operate as an executive non-departmental public body. Globally, we receive a core grant-in-aid from the Foreign and Commonwealth Department. In 2007/08 this was GBP189m. We earn income from teaching English, conducting British examinations, and managing development and training contracts. Our turnover across the 109 countries we work in was GBP202m in 2007/08. |
